What is old is new again.
If you did not notice, New Hampshire's only ABA approved law school, the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, signed an agreement to merge with the University of New Hampshire on April 27, 2010.
The merger was pending approval from the accrediting agencies. That has now happened as of August 30th, and the old law school is now the new University of New Hampshire School of Law.
The merger is intended to help both schools. Franklin Pierce is and was considered a top intellectual property law school. The University of New Hampshire is a flagship research university. The idea is to provide more opportunities to the students at both schools. It will probably improve rankings as well. For example, now new joint graduate programs will be offered.
I am convinced that joint degree programs will increasingly be a vital addition to a law degree. First, it enhances the students background in a specific field. Second, it reduces substantially the number of hours a student would need to accrue in order to obtain both degrees separately. My oldest daughter is, for example, working on her joint JD / MBA at the University of Houston Law Center. (She graduates in December - HOORAY)!!!
