Spring Break events, ideas, reviews and opinions

Springbreak    It is or was Spring Break this week, and because of that I have been neglecting to put up any new posts over the last few days. I was thinking of this and decided that I would just put everything in order from when it happened.

Friday-Saturday
Last Friday and Saturday I didn't do much, but hang out with my friends. On Friday I went to a birthday party at our local Main Event. It was a little weird because it was only about 4 or 5 of us and there was not much talking. But later we started having fun with bowling, laser tag, games and prizes. On Saturday I spent most of the day working until about 5pm. After work I went to hang out with friends from track. We didn't do much, but walk around and talk.
Sunday-Wednesday
Sunday I didn't do every much besides going to see Zodiac with my dad at like 10pm. On Monday I saw The Number 23. On Tuesday  I saw 300 and on Wednesday I saw Bridge to Terabithia again.
Movie Review#2

247poster_3 The Zodiac staring  Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo
Zodiac is  based of the true story of a serial killer in the San Francisco Bay Area who had claimed to kill somewhere around 30 or 40 people, but only 5 were confirmed. The movie takes you deep into the mind Robert Graysmith and Inspector David Toschi as they try to unravel the tight fitting not around the Zodiac case.
The story begins as we witness the first confirmed Zodiac murder, and his firstZodiac_mark_2 letter to the San Francisco  newspapers. The movie  tracks off of Robert Graysmith making him a secondary character for the first part of the movie as we get to know the investigators and reporters who opened the case.  As the movie franticly jumps from scene to scene we become more aware of how the Zodiac works and the problems both investigators and reporters had finding him. When Robert Graysmith finally comes into the picture after about the first hour and a half, the real investigating  of the Zodiac begin.
That will have to do as the summary of the movie, because I didn't really know how to explain it. Anyway for my review, The Zodiac was an all around good movie with fine acting, realisticPhoto_01_2 green screen 20070302ho_gyllenhaal_450_3 shots and   a nice story to top it all off. But all movies have their  weak spots, and this movies is editing. Any good movie in my opinion can be swept under the rug just because of it's length. The American people are not always willing to sit down for a 3 hour long movie, unless it is something big like the Titanic(very overrated in my opinion, but still a good movie). The story is also a very little problem, in my opinion it jumps around to much in dates which can become a little irritating. But nothing that isn't that bad to make you wand to leave the theater. Yet with anything that can be said about this movie it was still very good, and my be looking at some awards in the upcoming months.

I give Zodiac

Movie Review#3
Number23_2The Number 23  staring Jim Carrey as Walter Sparrow
In The Number 23 Walter Sparrow(Jim Carrey) an animal control officer gets held up at work one day which happens to be his birthday. This ends up to be the worst thing that ever happened to him when his wife Agatha Sparrow(Virginia Madsen) comes across a book called The Number 23. The book deals with a detective called Fingerling,Number233_2 and his obsession with the number 23. As Walter reads the book he finds that the book is telling a twisted version of his own life. Slowly Walter becomes obsessed  with the number 23 as he realizes that it is everywhere, and with that he begins a search looking for the author of the book thinking that he is the only one who can explain the number.
This movie really got to me as an inspiring film writer/director, because of the obvious amount of research put into the writing of this film. I have read that research is important and should be taken as Number232007 such, but I've seen very few movies that are so obvious about all the hard work55839_bg that was put into it. Anyway I did enjoy this movie allot. Jim Carrey was a surprising serious actor, and made the movie even more enjoyable with little comedic relief that he is so good at. It makes me sad that this movie is doing so poorly in the box office. I find myself asking the question why? I have come up with three possible situations. It may be because people do not want to see this type of movies or they don't want to see Jim Carrey is a serious role. But maybe people don't think it is a good movie. I on the over hand think that this film does Hollywood justice by being well an original story and well acted. In conclusion The Number 23 is a cinematic relief form over Hollywood films, and should be treated as such.

I give The Number 23

Movie Review#3
300ban 300 staring Gerard Bulter as King Leonidas
300 is a story based of the graphic novel of Frank Miller dealing with the 480B.C. Battle of Thermopylae were King Leonidas, king of Sparta, lead 300 of his best soldiers to confront the advancing  Persian army lead by the Persian king Xerxes. At the beginning of this story a Persian messenger comes to the king of Sparta and warns him of oncoming Persian army lead by king Xerxes. He warns that if the Spartan do not surrender then they will be crush by king Xerxes, but instead of surrendering king3001 Leonidas retaliates and kills the messenger. With no support form the counsel to go to war King Leonidas gathers 300 of the best Spartan soldiers and heads to confront the oncoming Persian army. The 300 Spartan along with about 700 Thespians hold off and kill thousands of Persian soldiers.
To start of 300 is visually stunning. Along with the story of this movie it has the potential to be a really big blockbuster. With it's opening weekend it made over 70 million, and with the movies that 2790300_4 opened this weekend I think that it may come out on top again. The story of this movie is very well done. It keeps the viewers interest until the very end. Along3002 with the story the visual effect are beautiful as they recreate the ancient world of Greece. The only down side of this movie is the acting it isn't as good as I think it could have been, but you have to consider that most of the movie was done in front of a green screen .

I give 300

Movie Review#! Part 2
001727 Bridge to Terabithia staring Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb
I have already reviewed this movie on an earlier blog so I don't see the need to review it even fever. I just wanted to change my rating of this movie because I rated it so fastBridge1_2 last time, and I've added a few more categories since my last review. I did go see this movie again this week, mainly because it is a great movie. I usually don't go back to see movies after I see them unless I really enjoyed them. I also respect the movie even more now because of it's jump form the fifth best movies in America to the third best movie, I also reread the book this week in like two day so I had to go re see the movie to figure out which one I enjoy better.

The Book
As I said I reread the book to Bridge to Terabithia in about 2 days, and I most say it was a great read. I had forgotten how good that book was, but I didn't think that they changed so much from the book when they made the movie. I did think that the changes made did work better to the story then what the book did. So I guess I'm trying to say that this is one of those rare movies that is better then the book. But that is just my opinion.

Thursday-Saturday
I didn't do really anything on Thursday through Saturday, but I did go see Premonition on Friday.
Movie Review#4
Premonition_2
Premonition staring Sandra Bullock
Premonition is a movie about a wife how unknowingly starts going backwards and forwards in time. Because of this she witnesses her life after she figures out that her husband has died. As she continues to go backwards and forwards in time she continues she also continues to change the course of history. Will she be able to save her husbands life?
I didn't like Premonition at all, and if this is the strongest movie of the weekend nothing is going to stand in the way from 300 form taking the top spot. This movie in my opinion was didn't have one or two things wrong with it, but literally nothing worked in this movie. The acting was very bad that you could feel sorry for any of the characters in the movie. I have never really liked Sandra Bullock, but I did enjoy Speed. The story also didn't work at all, and I agree with my father that if your main character has to make a flowchart to show where the movie is going then there is some serious rewriting to do. The costumes and sets were not the best I've ever seen. And the editing in this movie was also very bad. The editing contributed to the impossible to follow story. The only things that weren't very disappointing  were the visual effects and the camera.

I give Premonition

New Ideas and a New Book

I've been think of some new stuff for my script idea. Nothing that I will post right now, but they are good you can trust me. Anyway about my new book is today I went to Barnes & Noble and got them to order me a book called The Hollywood Standard: The Complete and Authoritative Guide to Script Format and Style(I know really long title). And I found a new site that has allot of film scripts that I can use for references called The Daily Script.
