Welcome to my home, my work, my life and my wife, Jane, who just happens to be my love partner, life partner and law partner. We went to law school together, struggled through the bar together, opened a law firm together, had and have four children together, bought a beagle together, been victorious together, failed together, have celebrated together, have cried together, and have tried to somehow manage our lives and family together over these many years.
We are now known as "downshifters", a term which I will cover in another post. Having built a large traditional law firm representing consumer bankruptcy clients with multiple offices through the '80s and '90s, my wife and I finally had enough. Children in before school programs, after school programs, doing their homework at our offices, and sleeping on the hard floor of our offices while we had to burn the midnight oil. We had just had enough. This was no way to work or live. We had been so busy pursuing the American dream and trying to get ahead that we found ourselves with no time and no money. There had to be a better way out of the world of starched white shirts, silk ties, expensive suits, and steep office overhead and marketing costs that seemed to dominate our lives, and which was killing our dreams and ambitions for both our work and family. Whether we walked away from that old world or were pushed out could be a matter for debate, but we left nonetheless. Well, although our world is still not perfect, we did find that better way. It is called the "Third Wave". The purpose of this blawg is to help you as lawyers, mothers, fathers and families find it too.
