Got Milk?

There are any number of these browser based automated to-do lists and reminders hitting the market, but this one has an interesting name to say the least -- Remember The Milk.  Indeed?  I come from dairy country.  It should be called, Remember To Milk.  Twice a day, no matter what weather conditions, no holiday excluded, you have got to milk those dairy cows twice a day, and do all of the other tasks.  Forget and your whole operation is in trouble.  Forget the milk at the grocery store, and there is the convenience store.  Besides, that is what the cell phone is really about.  "Chuck, remember to pick up a gallon of milk".  "Yes, dear".  That said, check this little utility out.

Gotta Get Goals Challenge: I Will Tell You Of My Secret Ambitions, But Do Not Tell Anyone Else

I do not like goals really.  I have often thought why?  I guess it is because, much like my birthdays, it tends to be a reminder of all that I have not achieved or accomplished that I wanted to do.  Who needs to be reminded.

But, I need goals.  Especially today I need goals.  I have been in a funk.  I cannot get my work done.  I cannot seem to make progress because my thoughts are too diffused.  My wants are too scattered.  My direction is too uncertain.  How can you stay focused without a road map of sorts.  So, no matter how much I hate them, I have got to have them, or I am lost.  Who wants to be lost?

I guess I am in a funk of sorts.  Uncivil lawyers coming out of the woodwork lately.  There must be something in the water.  This is a video of the music of Jim's Big Ego entitled You're An Asshole.  It applies to more than politics.  I think it applies to many lawyers whose egos or whatever just cannot allow them to think rationally.  It is rather indelicate so please do not watch or listen if you are offended.

"How Do I Sell Myself When I Am Just Starting Out"? You Don't!!!

I get this question almost every week from law students, recent graduates and attorneys making a change in their practice area.  "How do I sell myself when I am starting out"?  The long answer short is you do not sell yourself.  You need to be the invisible man or woman, and let the usefulness of your services speak for themselves.

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but clients really do not care that much about you, or me, or the lawyer down the street.  They do not care if you graduated from Harvard or Yale, or Bob's Really Big Law School.  And, yes, clients want good service and a good amount of attention from the lawyers they hire.  But, the truth of the matter is that they are concerned about themselves...their problems...their needs.  They are not looking for a name.  They are looking for a solution.

I Mentor For You (And Me)

There are two thing I think of when trying to understand why I attempt to mentor those lawyers that ask for help.  The first is the slogan for Scotts that reads, "If there's a better business to be in, Please let us know".  (I have always found this an interesting statement).

The second is I commonly tell youngsters that we people are always asking them want they want do when they grow up because we are looking for ideas for ourselves.
