This is not good. This picture is of me having my daily fix.
All kidding aside, did you know that Dr. Pepper might be the next Jack Kevorkian.
As reported on ABC News, a new study published in the current issue of the journal Circulation suggests that drinking a soda or more per day -- even if it's a diet soda -- is associated with an increase in other risk factors for heart disease.
The study's researchers report that those who said they drank a soda or more per day had a 31 percent greater chance of developing obesity, a 30 percent increased risk for gaining inches around the waist, a 25 percent chance of developing high blood sugar levels and a 32 percent greater chance of developing lower "good" cholesterol levels.
Now, I know the stuff in diet Coke and others are not good for you necessarily, but how in the hell does a zero calorie drink lead to obesity, high blood sugar, and bad cholesterol?
I clearly question the results, but if true this spells trouble for me. This is especially true because I usually start drinking the cheap stuff around lunch. K Diet Cola from my local Kroger supermarket is my poison. It is cheap and easy.
Over the years, I have cut back to one or two cans of diet soda a day, but I have to admit that I am hooked. The only good news is that I could be spending two or three times as much for Diet Coke or Coke Zero if I worked outside of my home.
Cheers!
