YouTube might be the greatest, and one of the cheapest, forms of Third Wave technology to date, but the old line conservatives just do not understand either it or its impact. They cannot run and hide. It will catch up with them. Yet, the Washington Post Blog is reporting that four days after the Democratic debate in Charleston, S.C., and after more than 400 questions have been submitted by ordinary citizens, only two Republicans have agreed to show up to the CNN YouTube debate scheduled for September 17th. Senator John McCain and Representative Ron Paul. I guess fearful of video populism they just cannot stand stepping out of the bubble where they can to some extent control the questions and responses. Policies aside, these people are so going to lose come a year from November. Obviously, the do not feel they can answer, or do not want to answer some tough citizen questions, not filtered by the press. Here are a few:
The invitations only officially went out several days ago. My feeling is that the majority of Republican candidates will decide to participate. However, I can see why they would be hesitant. Just as the Democratic candidates would more than likely balk at a FoxNews sponsored debate, Republicans are likely to balk at this CNN sponsored debate. As the majority of questions posed to the Democrats were from a liberal bias, hopefully the majority of questions for the Republicans will come from a more conservative viewpoint, if CNN wants to be seen as fair and balanced.
