I get emails from people who say they want to move home, but they do not have room in their home. What to do?
It might be right to convert your garage, or at least part of it, into a home law office. This makes part of your home depreciable on your taxes, and there might be other tax savings for you as well.
Home Office Buddy briefly covered this issue. And, as stated in that post, you do not want to just place a desk, chair, computer and telephone in the middle of your garage.
You can start by using a partition wall on part to separate out a corner or part of the garage space.
You will also need to deal with the heating, air conditioning, electrical and wiring issues before starting.
I do not mean to say that converting a garage into functional space is easy. My point is that you can consider it an option in finding or building out a home office.
