Beddy-bye. Forty winks. Get horizontal. Nap. Retire. ZZZ. Turn in. Doze. Slumber. Siesta. Blackout. Oblivion. It does not much matter what you call it, many Americans, and especially many lawyers, are not getting enough sleep. This is not good. Articles of late have stated that sleep deprivation reduces emotional intelligence and constructive thinking skills. A recent study strongly suggest in men sleep deprivation substantially lowers libido. Talk about hit them where it hurts. No wonder there are so many ill tempered lawyers in this World. And, sleep deprivation is physically bad for you and can lead to hypertension.
If there is not a solution there is at least a partial remedy. STOP COMMUTING TO WORK!!! Move your practice home. You can do it cheaply and effectively. I am no medical doctor but I can tell you it will help out tremendously.
It has been reported that many of us spend more time commuting than on vacation. Can you believe it. We truly must be crazy.
Working at home can help in several ways. First, moving home will substantially lower your overhead. Believe me that this alone will lead to a more peaceful sleep. Second, the time you could be commuting in the morning you could be sleeping in a little longer. And, it is not only the time saved by not driving and parking and walking to your office, it is also the time preparing to go to work in the morning. Then, if you so chose, the time that it takes you to get home in rush hour traffic, you could spend taking a catnap in the afternoon. Unlike work, who is going to really know. And, there is a convenient place to do it -- your own personal bed.
Well folks, I have got to go because it is time for bed.
A few more advices I could give regarding sleep deprivation could be found here :

And yes, I really agree with you regarding the fact that majority of people ignore the warning signs of sleep deprivation, they instead find quick solutions : coffee or other stimulants.
This is a bad practice leading to bad health. I was once like this, burning the midnight oil for reports and papers. What I do know is to sleep and wake up early. Healthier and more productive.
