I need to read and report on Arnie Herz blog Legal Sanity more often. He has a great post about solos and others falling into the whirlwind that is there life and work only to find that they have fallen out of touch with their network. (You know, those people and companies on which you rely on for business and to make a living).
He states that too many look up and think that holiday cards and gifts can reconnect and, whereas it is good to send these, it does not work as well as two-way connection or in having an "organic dialogue". You need two way conversations. But, the bottom line is that you need to work harder not to lose contact in the first place. I know, in the past, when I have let myself ignore my bread and butter, I have quickly found myself with less bread and butter. And, anybody that knows me knows I like bread and butter.
You get my point. Go ahead and mail the holiday card. Better yet, deliver the holiday card. Get on the phone with your referral sources. Go visit your referral sources. Take your referral sources to lunch. Email your referral sources. Fax your referral sources. Exchange ideas. Collaborate with them. As you are thinking of New Year's resolutions, the best one might be to keep the dialogue going.
