I have discussed this all with a friend of mine who is a partner in a law firm with almost 1000 Attorneys in it. It seems that he was an associate first with a law firm that ran a paper-less office, and that all of the associates and partners there were basiclly required to do their own everything, with only minimal help from secretaries and administrative staff. Apparently it worked for them, and it works for him, and when I discussed the prospect of going solo and not hiring any staff he had a very long and very positive discussion in support of the idea. This is from a guy who has never been solo, but understands the concept of doing it all and making it work. I like having mentors like that.
