You might call it "Googlepedia". I have often said that we are living in the Google era. Now Google intends to take on Wikipedia.
The picture with this post is an example of a "knol". Typically known as a unit of knowledge, it is the name given to web pages that allow users to write authoritative entries on subjects they know about.
Presently, the platform is being privately tested. Udi Manber, a vice president of engineering, said a knol on a particular subject "is meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read." Wikipedia currently fills that role for many people searching for information on the Internet.
