The bottom line is that we all want to make as much money as we can, and to keep for ourselves as much money as possible of that we earn. It is the greedy human nature in all of us. I do not claim to be saint in this regard. But, when it comes to executive compensation it is the old adage that pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. At what point to executive compensation gets so obscene compared to how the companies treat people and their customers and pay their other employees that there is just a revolt.
And, these companies do so many meaningless and stupid things. Regents Bank for example has now spent hundreds of thousands of dollars changing all of its signage from one shade of green to a slightly lighter shade of green. Not to many years ago, Chase spent outrageous sums changing its logo from one side of the word "Chase" to the other side, as if this meant anything or helped anybody. Yet, when they hurt someone or one of their customers, even unintentionally, they will spend tens of thousand of dollars in attorneys' fees to quibble over hundreds of dollars in recovery. It is really madness. What is mine is mine and everybody else can go to hell. This includes employees, contract workers, customers, people at large and the shareholders of the company, stakeholders all in the success of the company.
And, do not think that I am the only one that thinks so. According to Yahoo News even 64% of top executives view CEO compensation as excessive. 77% of Big Business' employees think that it is excessive. This while only 38% of Big Business' employees believe that the CEO's leadership style is effective (55% of the CEOs themselves think their leadership style is effective). So, even the insiders agree that CEOs get paid obscene pay and incentives for D to C+ work.
The part that I really love is when a CEO or higher up gets fired for gross incompetence or lack of leadership and gets a golden parachute in the tens of millions of dollars for the privilege. I wish someone would fire me and pay me for the privilege of being fired.
