Can you top this? A non-lawyer contacted me about the virtues and quality of Texas Tech University School of Law. When somebody outside of the bar can recognize Tech grads as powerfully effective people, that matters.
And, you do not have to tell me about Tech because I know many very good lawyers that have graduated from the school.
Tech Law is an ABA accredited public law school located in Lubbock, Texas. Now I really love Lubbock, but I once made a joke that my daughter elected to not to attend Tech Law when accepted because there was nothing to do in in Lubbock except watch New Mexico blow by. That made several Tech students and graduates mad and I got some stinging emails. My daughter did not attend Tech because, like most people, she wanted to stay closer to home. Texas is a big state. For example, it is much closer for someone to drive from Texarkana, Texas to Chicago, Illinois than to drive from Texarkana to El Paso, Texas. And the area is aired, but that does have benefits too. You also need to remember that no matter where you live, Lubbock is just a plan ride away.
I can tell you want impressed me about Tech Law when my daughter applied. She is and was a quality and extraordinarily gifted student (unlike her Daddy). When she turned Tech down a professor was assigned to call me to (1) extol the benefits of the law school and to (2) try to get me to get her to change her mind. I do not know, but part of me thinks that if some institutions treats you that well you should reconsider.
The other thing that I remember Tech doing was when they accept you, they will tell you what they can give you in scholarships and aid at the same time. You do not have to accept blindly and then find out later.
The tuition is relatively low because it is part of a large state university. This year it is $14,188. The cost of living in West, Texas is relatively low. In addition, Tech Law has a high bar passage rate. Tech Law is ranked 9th in the nation in "Best Value" out of nearly 200 law schools by the National Jurist magazine.
U.S. News currently ranks Tech as a Tier 3 school, but it just cannot be. The achievements are too high, the costs are low, it has a huge university system and money behind it, it has great facilities and its graduates excel. Who needs more than this?
Like a few other law schools Tech Law has a 3+3 program in which your last year of undergraduate at Texas Tech University is considered completed with the completion of your first year of law school, knocking a whole year off your education. That is great, but it also saves you lots of money.
The Law School deserves a look by anybody interested in being a quality lawyer.
. . . and Tech's football coach is a lawyer. How do you top that?
