Oh Memphis, Tennessee, the home of Blues, Gospel, Rock n' Roll and "sharecropper"country music (unlike the "rhinestone" country music of Nashville). A metropolitan area of over a million people. It sits on the Mississippi, right on the Arkansas boarder. The Bar-B-Q! It is a dynamic city.
... And, there sits The University of Memphis / Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. The law school was rated number 5 in the Best Value Law Schools in the United States by National Jurist Magazine, and for good reason. Memphis is a relatively cheap place to live. You can find reasonably priced housing. Counties in states around Tennessee have tuition waivers allowing their students to attend for the in-state tuition rate. Tuition for an in-state, full-time student is currently $11, 412 a year. It offers dual degree programs, joint degree programs, on campus housing, and scholarships. It consistently beats the state average in the percentage of its graduates who passing the bar on the first try, with 95.9% of its graduates passing the bar in July of 2007. And, its national placement rates upon graduation are excellent. So, where does the law school place in the U.S. News rankings? As a third tier law school, which is simply unimaginable.
In 2009 it is expected that the law school will move to new facilities, a former customs house and post office, on the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis. (Pictured).
This law school is worth a good hard look.
I looked at Memphis. Still am a bit.
But one thing you need to consider, and think hard on, is the crime in Memphis. It is out of control.
