Some suggestions to not get the crap... Use www.twellow.com , or search by keyword in www.summize.com to find people that share common interests with you, and then follow them... = Social Network on the fly!

I deleted my Twitter account a few days ago. I don't get it. It seems to be less of a networking tool and more of a "look at me" tool.

I am trying biznik but it seems to be mostly populated by networking/communication/pr consultants. However, I still think it has potential to be a facebook for professionals.

I have good luck getting referrals from legal association websites that have their member directory available to the public. For example, the Washington Employment Lawyers Association (WELA), has been good for me. Potential clients call bar associations or lawyers who refer them to the WELA website. From there clients find me.
