I guess there are literally trillions of reasons why some law firm would develop such a niche.
I received an email from a reader. Attached to it was the article from the St. Louis Business Journal about this very subject.
The Big Law firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP has formed a "new temporary practice group". The law firm does not call it a niche. Interestingly, the firm refer to it as the "Stimulus Strike Force".
In any event, Stinson formed the group, niche or strike force with the goal of helping businesses analyze, understand and access federal stimulus funds and programs by focusing on legislative and executive branch lobbying, government procurement and compliance advice related to the stimulus.
On the firm's website they state, “Because the $750 billion stimulus is intended to be spent in such a short period of time on the state and local level, businesses have a great opportunity to participate in the shaping of stimulus spending in their area."
