Have you ever noticed that the initial innovator in a market rarely survives as the perennial favorite long term. Or, in the case of smartphones, short term. Everyone should hand it to Apple for boosting the market with the iPhone, but it would appear the most popular devices involve those with the Android operating system.
I love my Droid. More importantly I hate (1) the Apple design premium pricing and (2) AT&T wireless, which Apple uses exclusively. (For the record, I use AT&T U-verse for broadband in that it proves a better option over cable).
Apparently, I am not alone. As recently reported, the sale of devices that use Google's operating system, Android, have now passed Apple's iPhone, as well as the Blackberry.
It is stated that the main reason for this are the different price points available with Android's open source technology. Maybe so, but I believe that the innovation and evolution of a product is better with everybody in the World able to contribute. The closed environment of Apple might produce amazing design much like a cheap date, but design is fleeting. Beauty is only skin deep. In Apple's case it is outrageously expensive. I like to say that where the iPhone might be the pretty girl every guy wants his friends to see him with, Android represent devices you would not mind taking home to your mother.
Now the test will be how Android eventually delivers in the tablet market.
100% with you on the desirability of Android and its advantages vs. Apple. You must be aware of the patent lawsuit filed yesterday by Oracle against Google with regard to Android. Some speculate it's because Larry Ellison and Steve Jobs are friends...
