Sure there is attending court and meetings and conferences, but some of a lawyer's life needs to be more secluded. A place where a lawyer can think and contemplate the law, the needs of the client and life. Some parts of a lawyer's life is like the monastic life. Or, at least it needs to be. And, at least for me, Starbuck's does not cut it.
A quiet office can sometimes be made in the home. Sometime it can happen behind or to the side of the home. Sometimes with a reasonable travel distance from the home.
In the past, this blog has covered places built from shipping containers as a cheaper and easier solution for many lawyers who need additional space to cover this. We imagine by example as to what can be done.
To me, this lakeside retreat built using shipping containers and reused timber in Sri Lanka represents a good example. It does not have to have a bed and kitchen. It can be an office and meeting room if need be.
The timber used on this project came from weapon boxes. Located on a former army training camp, this simple container solution was designed by Damith Premathilake and built by soldiers with materials found in the area. It is now destination for the traveler seeking to relax, however.
I think I could relax there. But, I think I would miss my Internet broadband connection a little.
